Excellence

Excellence! What is excellence? It could be a lot of different things it could be doing the best you can or never giving up and always trying to better at something or i beating everyone at the subject and getting a medal for your effort. The dictionary definition of the word is 1.the fact or state of excelling; superiority; eminence: his excellence in mathematics. 2. an excellent quality or feature.

Excellence one way is never giving up what you believe in no matter what is in you way. Whether it is Drill Instructors at boot camp. If you just keep trying pretty soon all there yelling will just go in one ear and out the other. All the marines that I have talked to said that looking back on it now boot camp was nothing. But anyway if you are playing video games and you are stuck on a level. Excellence is just keep trying and don’t give up you will get it sooner later and don’t cheat to get it cause if you don’t then the reward is so much better when you pass boot camp or passing that part on the video game.

It could also be doing the best at something or doing it better then everyone else. Let’s say you get a get the longest range shot in the shooting range or win a medal in a martial art tournament. If you win those you feel great like you are the best and that is excellence in my view. And no matter what no one can take that away from you ever. Yes people might bet your range in another platoon but you did it for your platoon. Yes people might beat your take down score but you will always have that medal.

That is what I think excellence is it an opinion. Its your own mind thinking that you are the best whether it be by getting thought boot camp, betting that level that you never thought you could, shooting the best at the range and being honored for that, or just plain getting a medal to prove to your self that you are excellence.

Mr. Brian Jones
Human Resources Director
Alan Construction

Dear Mr. Jones
I am applying for the construction job for the classifieds in the local newspaper for a summer job as a construction worker. I am in closing my resume with this letter. I will admit am not the smartest kid in my class or even at average. I have a 1.8 GPA but I don’t think you are looking for a book smart worker. I do know construction and building thought. My grandpa and I just this week built a deck for our backyard. We also built a ramp for our stairs in the garage so we can put our shoes out there and made a coat rake out there also.
Or if you need someone to do computer work like draw up designs in CAD in can do that. I will work hard with whatever I do. I am a fast learner and if I don’t understand what I am suppose to do. I’m not afraid to ask for help or if it is after work I can always call my grandpa and he can explain it to me. I will tell you this I can only work until July 21st because that is when I’m joining the marines and am going to boot camp.

I look forward to having an opportunity to meet with you in person as soon possible.

Sincerely,

Jordan Brown

Pg. 96 Critical Thinking

  1. What is the difference in form and in content between the model resume and the model cover letter? Resume tells your accomplishments, education, and work experience. Bullet form style is what you use. Cover Letter tells the employer why you would be good for that position. Cover letter uses paragraph form.
  2. Into what parts is the resume divided? The cover letter? Resume parts are your name, address, and phone number, objective, educational background, extracurricular activities, and work experience, references. Cover letter parts are heading, inside address, salutation, body, closing, signature, and typed name.
  3. What do you think of Thomas's stated objective on his resume? What role do you suppose the objective serves on a resume? It is to brief not to the point. To tell what you are tring to get in the job.
  4. If you were the director of the day camp, would you invite Thomas in for an interview to discuss his qualifications for the job? Why or Why not? Yes because he is a experinced swimmer, he will be certified in CPR in June. He is around little kids all the time.
